Wike Not Untouchable, Adeyanju Urges Fubara To Punch Him

Prominent activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to confront the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a bid to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Adeyanju urged Governor Fubara to take a bold stand against Wike, asserting that the minister’s approach to politics is totalitarian and requires direct opposition. He dismissed the notion of Wike being untouchable, stating, “Wike is not a god,” and insisted that confronting him is the only way to assert leadership and restore stability in Rivers State.

“There is nothing Fubara can do to make Wike back down. Wike doesn’t believe in compromise or middle ground. The governor has shifted positions severally, but it’s clear that the way forward is to challenge him directly,” Adeyanju said.

He added that Wike’s reaction to being challenged often reveals vulnerabilities, saying, “Once you confront him head-on, he becomes jittery and starts talking anyhow.”

The activist lawyer also highlighted legal grounds for addressing the political crisis, referencing Supreme Court rulings on defections. “The law is settled that when people defect, they lose their seat. They went and got a lower court to make another ruling on the same subject. The governor needs to act decisively to put an end to this manipulation,” he explained.

Adeyanju further criticized Wike’s perceived dominance within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Referring to claims that Wike wields significant influence, he said, “If Wike is the oracle of the PDP as he claims, why couldn’t he make himself the presidential candidate of the party?”
