Latest cement prices

The price of cement in Nigeria has been rising steadily over the past six to eight months, with a 50kg bag now averaging ₦8,800 going by latest prices nationwide.

In some regions, the price has even reached as high as ₦10,000. This persistent increase has sparked widespread concern, prompting the House of Representatives to call in major cement manufacturers, including Dangote and BUA, earlier this year to address the issue.

The manufacturers have faced accusations of taking advantage of exchange rate fluctuations, engaging in corrupt practices, and manipulating the market to maintain these high prices.

Despite these concerns and efforts by lawmakers to intervene, the price of cement remains unaffordable for many Nigerians, particularly affecting individual homebuilders who struggle to fund their construction projects.

Although lawmakers have attempted to take action, their efforts have so far not resulted in any significant changes. The high cost of cement continues to burden citizens and the construction industry.

Currently, the price for Dangote cement is ₦8,650 per 50kg bag, though this can vary depending on location. BUA cement is priced at ₦7,000 per bag, while the price of POP (Plaster of Paris) white cement is ₦10,300. Lafarge cement prices are also on the higher end, with waterproof cement retailing at ₦10,500 and high-quality waterproof cement priced at ₦12,000.
