The Upper Shari’a Court in Kano, under the leadership of Judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola, has dismissed accusations of adultery against Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State.

The adultery case against the Jigawa commissioner, initiated by Nasiru Buba, alleged that Sankara had an illicit affair with Buba’s wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.

In his ruling, Judge Sarki Yola emphasized the importance of thorough and fair investigations in cases involving public figures. He urged authorities, including the Hisbah Commission, to handle such matters carefully to avoid damaging the reputation of innocent individuals.

The court noted that the complainant, Nasiru Buba, and his legal team failed to attend the hearing to challenge the findings presented by the police on the adultery case against the Jigawa commissioner.

“Following the investigation conducted by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report concludes that there is no evidence of an illicit relationship between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu,” the judge stated.
“Since the complainant and his lawyers did not appear to dispute this evidence, I have no choice but to dismiss the case.”

Sankara’s lawyer, Barrister Sadam Suleiman, welcomed the verdict and reiterated his client’s innocence.
“We have always maintained that our client is innocent. The court’s decision, based on the police investigation, has confirmed this,” Suleiman said following the exoneration of the Jigawa commissioner of the allegation of adultery.

On the other hand, Tasleem Baba Nabegu’s counsel, Rabiu Shu’aibu, hinted at the possibility of filing a defamation lawsuit against the complainant.
“We will consult with our client to explore legal actions against Nasiru Buba for tarnishing her reputation,” Shu’aibu explained.

The judgment has brought the case of adultery against the Jigawa commissioner to a close, though further legal proceedings against the complainant may follow.
