NURTW To Tinubu: Deliver Us From MC Oluomo, He Is Not Our Member!
The Southwest Zonal Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Olalekan Folorunsho, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to step in and address issues surrounding Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo.
GWG.ng recalls that MC Oluomo was declared NURTW President by a faction after a controversial election in Osogbo, Osun State. However, the Appeal Court invalidated this election on November 8, 2024, reaffirming Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa’s position as the legitimate NURTW President.
In a statement on Monday, Salami condemned what he called the “gangsterism” within the union and reiterated that MC Oluomo is not a recognized member of NURTW. He explained that Oluomo had officially renounced his membership in 2022, tearing up his NURTW identity card after being queried by the national leadership.
According to Salami, there is no record of Oluomo rejoining the union, and the NURTW’s constitution requires a formal process for returning members, including a written request and a mandatory two-year waiting period before running for higher office.
Salami also addressed allegations against Alhaji Moshood Ajao, a former NURTW secretary, for claiming leadership in Osun State. He clarified that only former state chairmen are recognized as leaders, naming himself and Alhaji Nasiru Komolafe as the legitimate leaders in Osun. He warned Ajao to cease impersonating a union leader, calling such actions unacceptable.
Salami further dismissed the Osogbo election as illegitimate, citing the lack of representation from key southwestern states like Osun, Oyo, and Lagos. He also accused certain Ogun State factional leaders of betraying the union by supporting MC Oluomo. He emphasized that the election of Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa was legitimate and supported by evidence.
Finally, Salami urged the Federal Government to intervene to uphold the rule of law and the judiciary’s decision, which confirmed Baruwa’s leadership. He stressed that the union remains committed to supporting Baruwa’s leadership, as affirmed by the recent Appeal Court ruling.
