Edo: Okpebholo Dissolves Councils Of All State-Owned Tertiary Institutions, Removes Hospital Executives

Governor Monday Okpebholo has dissolved the Governing Councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions and removed the management teams of two major hospitals in Benin City: Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital.

The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered significant changes in the management of state institutions with the decision to dissolve the governing councils of all state owned tertiary institutions.

He has dissolved the Governing Councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions and removed the management teams of two major hospitals in Benin City: Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital. These decisions take effect immediately.

A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, on November 20, 2024, shared the news with the public. It emphasized that all members of the affected governing councils must hand over any government property in their possession to the heads of their respective institutions.

Similarly, the management staff of the two hospitals have been instructed to hand over all government properties to the most senior officers in their organizations.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo has approved the dissolution of the Governing Councils of all State-owned Tertiary Institutions in Edo State with immediate effect,” the announcement read.

The statement added, “The Management Staff of Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City, are to hand over all Government properties in their possession to the most senior officer in their various institutions.”

Governor Okpebholo’s decision to dissolve the governing councils is among measures aimed at restructuring and improving governance across the affected institutions.
