Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State in the 2023 elections, has debunked rumors suggesting he is planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Rhodes-Vivour dismissed the claims as baseless and reiterated his commitment to standing with the people rather than aligning with what he described as the “gathering of the wicked” or the “congregation of jesters.”

He wrote:
“The news making the rounds that I’m about joining the APC is false. I have no reason to join the gathering of the wicked or fellowship in the congregation of jesters. Just like I have done since the beginning of my political career, I stand firmly with the people who deserve better than what the APC has delivered over the last 24 years. #OurLagos.”

In an accompanying video, Rhodes-Vivour further clarified that the rumors suggesting he intended to join the APC to run for a senatorial seat in Lagos West were entirely false. He emphasized his unwavering stance against the ruling party.

“At every point in time, I have never, ever even got into a potential discussion about joining the APC. It has never been even something that has crossed my mind,” he stated firmly.

Rhodes-Vivour also criticized individuals he implied had betrayed their principles for political gains. Although he refrained from naming names, his comments seemed to target figures like Reno Omokri and Daniel Bwala, who have shifted their positions on President Bola Tinubu.

Reno Omokri: Once a staunch critic of Tinubu, Omokri previously staged protests in London, labeling Tinubu as political and ethically unfit to be president. ” However, he has recently softened his stance, raising speculation about his motives.

Daniel Bwala: Formerly a vocal opponent of Tinubu, Bwala has been appointed as one of Tinubu’s media aides. Rhodes-Vivour alluded to individuals who criticized Tinubu’s capabilities but later aligned with his administration, casting doubt on their integrity.

The Labour Party candidate assured his supporters that he remains content and steadfast in his beliefs. He expressed no desperation for political positions and reaffirmed his dedication to advocating for a better Lagos.

His strong denouncement of the APC and veiled criticisms of political figures who have shifted alliances reflect his commitment to the ideals he has consistently championed throughout his political career.
