Widespread anger has surfaced online following an incident in Delta State where a 17-year-old student, Samuel Onyeme, was reportedly assaulted and locked in a dog cage.

The alleged culprits are the father and brothers of a female classmate Samuel had visited. Social media users have expressed dismay at what many described as an inhumane act of abuse.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by user: @Naija_PR, Samuel was targeted simply for visiting his female classmate at her home. While details remain unclear, the public reaction has been swift, with many condemning the act and calling for justice.

Social media was flooded with reactions, with users expressing disbelief and frustration. One user, @agunonye3, exclaimed, “How can a father do this?” Another, @DivineAlfred5, added, “That’s evil nah.” A particularly outraged user, @SamuelI10540458, suggested punishment for the perpetrators, saying, “They should be locked in the same dog cage as punishment.”

Some users highlighted potential misuse of power by the family involved. @OlaBme_ commented, “Here is what we keep saying: people like to misuse power too much.” Similarly, @GeniusHawlah warned about potential injustice, writing, “Hopefully, the abuser isn’t rich and influential enough to later buy her [out] and make her apologize in front of the camera for ‘being rude.’ “

While many condemned the act outright, some questioned the appropriateness of Samuel’s visit. A user, @AfcMacdon, asked, “Why did he visit the girl? People now have boldness in this new generation.” Another, @Tomisinofnaijah, added, “But why would a 17-year-old student go visit his female classmate?”

Others defended the boy, insisting there was nothing wrong with his actions. @Abdullahi2206 asked, “Is there anything wrong with visiting one’s classmate?”

Amid the outrage, some called for immediate legal consequences. @EedeeNdam1 wrote, “Lock them up.” Another user, @willskyd, warned, “Make the father prepare for a court case… He must feel my pain too.”

The incident also sparked discussions on African cultural norms. Some users argued that such visits may be seen as inappropriate in traditional settings, while others highlighted the excessive nature of the punishment. @Bornhero1077896 summed it up, writing, “Imagine the nonsense. If it were their daughter treated like this, they wouldn’t take it lightly.”

As the debate rages online, many are awaiting updates on the boy’s condition and whether the authorities will take action against the alleged perpetrators. Calls for justice and a reevaluation of societal norms continue to dominate the conversation.
