Junior Pope and four other crew members lost their lives in a boat accident on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State, in April 2024. The group was en route to the set of Luke’s movie, The Other Side of Life, when the incident occurred.

Despite suspending Adanma Luke after the tragedy, the AGN has refrained from taking legal steps. Speaking in a recent interview on Arise TV, Rollas explained that the guild lacks the legal standing to sue because Junior Pope was not a dues-paying member at the time of his death.

“The contract Pope signed with the producer stipulates that only his immediate family or wife has the legal right to sue,” Rollas clarified.

The AGN leader also used the opportunity to discuss ongoing reforms within the guild. “We are restructuring,” he said. “We just returned from Los Angeles, where we observed practices we plan to adopt. One of our goals is to begin licensing actors and ensuring dues are consistently paid.”

Rollas highlighted the need for structural changes to avoid similar situations in the future, ensuring members of the guild are adequately protected.
