Thieves Steal Celestial Church Harvest Thanksgiving N2m Cows

In a shocking incident, two cows valued at nearly N2 million were stolen from the Celestial Church of Christ, Testimony Parish, located in Elerumoke, Egbeda, Oyo State.

The theft occurred on Saturday, November 16, just days before the church’s ninth “Adult Harvest Thanksgiving Service.”

The cows, purchased through member contributions, were intended for the church’s grand celebration. According to Oluso Ayo, a church leader, the thieves struck under the cover of darkness after the parish shepherd and other leaders had retired for the night.

“The cows, which were tethered, were untied by the suspected thieves. We saw their footprints along with those of the animals but couldn’t trace where they were taken,” he explained.

This is reportedly not the first such incident in the area, but it marked the first time the church had been targeted. Prophet Rotimi Temitope, the parish shepherd, confirmed that the cows were worth N1.98 million and lamented the thieves’ boldness.

“The theft dealt a devastating blow to the church’s preparations. However, the 2024 Adult Harvest still held as scheduled on Sunday, November 17. The incident has taught us the importance of completing our perimeter fence, which the thieves exploited,” Temitope stated.

A church member, speaking anonymously, expressed disbelief: “If this can happen in a church, where else is safe in this country? Stealing cows this large from a sacred space is shocking.”

The theft has left the parish scrambling to prevent future incidents, with work now underway to secure the premises. Despite the setback, the church remains determined to maintain its spiritual activities.
