The Kwale community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, is mourning after violent attacks linked to cult activities caused a groom to be killed on his wedding day. One other was also killed and another person was seriously injured.

The tragic events unfolded early on Friday. One victim was reportedly shot dead near a bank, while another body was found at Utagba-Uno Junction. A third person, who suffered critical injuries, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Among the deceased was a man set to get married that same day. According to an eyewitness, he was walking with friends to buy wedding supplies when suspected cult members attacked him. His fiancée, family, and friends were devastated as their day of joy turned into sorrow.

Attempts to get comments from the police were unsuccessful. However, security officers have increased patrols and set up roadblocks to stop further violence.

This surge in cult-related violence has left residents living in fear. Community members, especially parents and leaders, are calling for vigilance as the festive season approaches. “We are scared,” a resident said. “Cultism, kidnappings, and other crimes are getting worse during this period. Everyone needs to be careful,” a Kwale resident said amid wailing after the groom was killed on his wedding day.

Local leaders are urging law enforcement agencies to strengthen their efforts to stop the violence and bring peace back to Kwale. Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help prevent more tragic incidents.
