The Morning Show anchor, Dr Reuben Abati has opened up on the controversy stoked with his Arise News Television colleague, Ojy Okpe over his claim on the alleged unwillingness of the Igbo selling lands to outsiders.

Reuben Abati opened up just as his colleague, Ojy Okpe for the second day in a row following their Friday spat skipped her turn presenting the popular “What is trending?” segment on The Morning Show.

Following the altercation Ojy Okpe skipped the show on Monday as her segment was presented by Vimbai Mutinhiri – Ekpenyong.

On Tuesday, her segment was taken up by Seyitan Atigarin raising questions among some viewers of the popular programme on the fate of the equally likeable Ojy Okpe.

GWG.ng reports that the one time cordial on-set cordiality between Abati and Okpe soured when the latter on Friday gave the lead anchor the opportunity to explain himself over the assertion that the Igbo do not sell lands to foreigners as alleged the previous day,  Thursday.

However, Abati doubled down on his claims and refused to apologise in a manner that some thought as bullying Ojy Okpe.

GWG.ng gathered some reactions from some viewers on social media over the spat between Reuben Abati and Ojy Okpe:

Meanwhile, speaking on Sunday when he received the THE MOST SAGACIOUS, SAPIENT & CONSTRUCTIVE SOCIO-POLITICAL ANALYST ON TV, from the Nigerian Media Award, Reuben Abati gave an insight on his perspectives on the controversy with Ojy Okpe.

While receiving the award, he said:

“I wish to thank the organisers of this award for considering me worthy of this recognition.

“I like all the adjectives with which you have described me but this is at a time when I am probably the most controversial TV presenter in Nigeria, so that makes it doubly satisfying.”

Meanwhile, Abati had attended the award as he claimed as an escort and bodyguard to his wife, AtandaOwo – Abati who was honored with the TALK SHOW DIVA OF OUTSTANDING DISTINCTION & EXCELLENCE 2024 award.

According to him:

“Interestingly, I attended this event as an escort and bodyguard for my wife (a role I proudly take on), only to discover—thanks to a colleague at Arise News—that I’d be receiving another award too myself!”
