Governor Nwifuru suspended commissioner

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended two state commissioners: Moses Ekuma, the Commissioner for Health, and Francis Ori, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development.

This development was announced on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor.

Okpor explained that the suspensions, which took effect on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital, were linked to allegations of gross misconduct. He stated, “Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three months suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health.”

The suspensions come in the wake of a recent scandal involving six employees of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health. These individuals were arrested for allegedly stealing government property. The suspects were reportedly caught on Saturday night at the ministry’s premises attempting to transport the stolen items for sale.

This incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Governor Nwifuru’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor. The statement further revealed that the Governor has directed the prosecution of those involved, labeling the theft as sabotage against the state’s health sector.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, Governor Nwifuru condemned the act, describing it as an affront to his administration’s efforts to enhance the health sector.
