Davido Says He Is The Real Nigerian Ambassador, Claps Back At Critics
Nigerian music superstar Davido has responded to widespread criticism following remarks he made during a recent radio interview in the United States. In the interview,
Davido had drawn criticism cautioned African Americans against relocating to Africa, referencing economic challenges in some parts of the continent, particularly Nigeria.
Davido’s comments sparked backlash and criticism from notable figures such as Reno Omokri, Patrick Doyle, and Akashat Nymat, who accused Davido of tarnishing Nigeria’s image. On social media, many Nigerians expressed outrage, arguing that his statements painted the country in a negative light at a global level.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Davido brushed off the criticism, humorously referring to himself as the “real ambassador.” He also took the opportunity to joke about his polished accent during the interview.
“Y’all mad ’cause we the Real Ambassadors. The way my accent be for that interview dey sweet me. Very demure,” he wrote.
Mocking his critics further, he added, “Lmao @tvcng nah today?”
Music promoter Paulo Okoye also stepped in to defend Davido, arguing that the singer’s comments should be understood in the context of raising awareness about Africa’s economic realities, rather than as an attack on Nigeria.
Despite the criticisms, Davido has remained unbothered, leveraging the situation to spark even more conversation about his role as an artist and global figure.
