‘I Hate Him Now,’ Woman Tells Divorce Court After Two Weeks Of Marriage
A woman named Wuraola Surajudeen appeared before an Area Court in Ilorin on Wednesday, seeking a divorce just two weeks after marrying her husband, Surajudeen Iya-Onitasi.
She explained that her request was based on a lack of love and affection for him.
Wuraola revealed to the court that she had been married before. “I divorced my former husband due to pressure from my mother,” she said. She added that her previous husband became deeply religious, which caused conflict with her parents.
She explained how she met her current husband, saying, “I was introduced to my present husband, and we got along smoothly. But immediately after the marriage, I developed hatred for him.”
The husband, Surajudeen, told the court that his wife had left their home without his permission, claiming she was no longer interested in the marriage. He added that he had made several attempts to build intimacy with her, but she refused each time. “I let her be,” he said.
The presiding judge, Hammed Ajumonbi, directed Wuraola to return the dowry paid by her husband. The case was adjourned to December 4 for the final decision on the divorce.
