PDP Suspends Lawmaker Linked To Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has suspended Habibu Umar, the member representing Kirfi Local Government in the state House of Assembly reportedly over his alleged links to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Though the suspension was reportedly due to his alleged connection with Nyesom Wike, the specifics of their relationship have not been disclosed. Sources indicate that Umar was suspended because of his supposed alliance with Wike.

However, a formal letter, which was addressed to the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, explained that Umar’s suspension was officially linked to allegations of insubordination within the party. The letter, signed by the party’s state chairman, Sama’ila Burga, stated that the lawmaker was found guilty following an investigation and evaluation by a Disciplinary Committee.

The letter read, “Habibu Umar was issued with a query letter from the party dated 5th November, 2024, for an act of insubordination as reported against him for violating Sections 58 (9) (1) and (f) of the Constitution of the Party 2017 (as amended).” It continued, “The said report was submitted to the Party from his Ward of Beni, which was duly signed by the entire Exco.”

The document further noted that, after the investigation, the committee found Umar guilty of the offense and recommended his suspension. The suspension, effective from November 25, 2024, prohibits the lawmaker from engaging in any party activities until further notice. “Subsequent to the above, a Disciplinary Committee was constituted by the party, dated 11th November 2024, in compliance with the Constitution Chapter 10, Section (59) (1) 2017 (as amended).”

The party’s statement concluded by noting that the suspension of Habibu Umar would remain indefinite until there were any further developments in the matter.
