Yahaya Bello Takes Charge As Judge Halts Court Proceedings

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, stepped in to restore order in the FCT High Court on Wednesday after Justice Maryann Anenih abruptly left the courtroom due to a rowdy crowd.

Bello, who was scheduled to be arraigned on a 16-count charge of money laundering alongside two others, took control of the situation after the judge expressed frustration over the disorder and announced she would not return until decorum was restored.

In a surprising move, Bello rose from his seat and addressed the crowd, instructing his supporters and sympathizers to vacate the courtroom. His intervention proved effective as his followers complied, leaving the room calmly and without resistance.

To ensure continued order, the former governor positioned himself at the entrance of the courtroom, personally overseeing the crowd’s exit. All his aides and supporters obeyed his directives, exiting the premises one by one under his watchful eye.

Meanwhile, legal teams for both parties were ready for the arraignment. The federal government’s team was led by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, while Joseph Bodunde Dauda, SAN, represented Bello.

The charges against the former governor are linked to allegations of misappropriation of funds totaling ₦110 billion. Despite the courtroom disruption, proceedings are expected to resume with heightened security and order.
