Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo has thrown his weight behind Afrobeats sensation Davido, who has faced mounting criticism over his comments on Nigeria’s economic struggles.

Davido sparked controversy during an interview where he advised African Americans against relocating to Africa, citing Nigeria’s dire economic situation as a deterrent. The statement ignited widespread backlash, with many Nigerians calling the singer out for his remarks.

In response, Kanayo took to Instagram to address the growing outrage, urging Nigerians to respect Davido’s freedom of speech. The actor emphasized that the singer’s comments were made in good faith, aimed at highlighting the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

“Let’s leave Davido alone about the comment he made; it’s freedom of speech, and he meant well,” Kanayo said in the video recorded from the UK. “Instead of dragging him, we should hold those in power accountable for building a better Nigeria.”

Kanayo also dismissed calls for Davido to apologize, stressing that the artist spoke out as a concerned Nigerian, not from a place of privilege.

“Some people are saying he should apologize. Apologize for what? He’s a Nigerian, and he has the right to speak up. Davido and his family can live comfortably, but he’s advocating for millions of Nigerians who cannot,” Kanayo added.

The actor’s support comes as debates about Nigeria’s economic challenges and governance continue to dominate public discourse. While Davido has not publicly responded to the backlash, Kanayo’s remarks add a voice of solidarity, urging Nigerians to focus on solutions rather than silencing critical opinions.
