Outrage As Lawyer Discusses Rape Case On Social Media (Video)
A viral video posted by popular X user @instablog9ja has ignited widespread reactions after a female lawyer detailed the outcome of a controversial case involving a lady and a self-proclaimed prophet.
In the video, the lawyer narrated the events surrounding the case and the court’s decision to dismiss it. However, her decision to publicly discuss the matter has drawn significant backlash, with critics questioning her professional ethics and discipline.
The lawyer explained that the case began in September 2022 but was related to an incident in August 2022, when the victim sought spiritual deliverance from the prophet. “The lady went to a prophet… to pray for the month of August. They said it is a month of enlargement,” the lawyer stated.
During the alleged deliverance, the victim was asked to kneel, and stones were placed on her chest as part of the ritual. However, when two stones “disappeared,” the prophet declared it a bad omen, claiming they had to be removed from her body. The victim was allegedly instructed to lie on a bed, and according to her, the prophet sexually assaulted her under the guise of completing the deliverance. The lawyer recounted, “After that, the prophet told her that they need to enter inside her so that the deliverance will be complete.”
The victim reported seeing blood afterward and sought medical assistance. “She rushed to the nurse’s house to report… the nurse asked her if she shouted because the houses are close,” the lawyer added. The victim eventually informed her mother, who advised her to go to the police. The prophet was arrested and medical tests were conducted on both parties at a hospital in Zuba.
Despite these efforts, the court dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence. The lawyer explained, “The prosecutor… did not prove her matter very well. One, she did not shout when the act was happening. Two, there is no proof that magic was used on her. And mind you, magic is difficult to prove in court.”
The lawyer also highlighted contradictions in the evidence presented. For instance, while the victim claimed to be a virgin before the incident, medical reports suggested otherwise. “Even in the hospital, they said the woman’s hymen had broken… but she was not a virgin,” the lawyer stated.
The court concluded that the allegations were based on “mere suspicion,” leading to the prophet’s release. The lawyer said, “He was handcuffed when he came, but today they removed the cuffs and set him free.”
Public Reactions and Backlash
The lawyer’s video has sparked widespread outrage on social media. While some sympathized with the victim, others focused on the lawyer’s conduct, accusing her of a lack of professionalism. Many argued that it was inappropriate to discuss the case publicly while it was still fresh.
Critics pointed out that the lawyer appeared more focused on narrating the story than upholding legal ethics. One user remarked, “She doesn’t need to bring this up this early since the case was still on.” Another questioned her discipline, stating, “She lacks the professionalism expected of someone in her position.”
Others debated the broader issue of how rape victims are treated in Nigeria. Some users argued that the court’s dismissal reflected societal insensitivity toward victims, with one commenter saying, “Do you have to scream before being acknowledged as a rape victim?”
The video has not only reignited conversations about justice for sexual assault victims but also raised questions about the ethical responsibilities of legal practitioners in sensitive cases. The lawyer now finds herself under scrutiny, with many calling for greater accountability in how such cases are handled.
