Popular Lagos Doctor Convicted Of Raping Wife’s Niece Freed By Appeal Court
Dr. Femi Olaleye, a Lagos-based medical practitioner previously convicted of rape and sexual assault, has been acquitted by the Court of Appeal.
Olaleye had been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lagos State High Court on charges of defilement and sexual assault by penetration involving his wife’s 16-year-old niece. His conviction earlier sparked widespread attention and raised significant concerns about sexual violence in Nigeria.
However, in a judgment delivered on Friday, the appellate court overturned the ruling, discharging and acquitting Olaleye after he challenged the initial conviction and sentencing.
