President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the reappointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), hailing it as a testament to her exceptional leadership on the global stage.

In a statement issued on Friday, Tinubu celebrated Okonjo-Iweala’s unanimous selection for a second four-year term, emphasizing that it underscores the international community’s confidence in her ability to drive sustainable development through multilateral trade.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, who made history in 2021 as the first African and first woman to lead the 164-member WTO, will begin her second term on September 1, 2025, following the conclusion of her first term on August 31 of the same year.

The President expressed optimism that her continued leadership would enhance the WTO’s role as a key player in fostering inclusive global economic growth and governance. He assured her of Nigeria’s unwavering support as she consolidates ongoing reforms aimed at promoting equitable global trade practices and international cooperation.

Tinubu’s message reflects Nigeria’s pride in Okonjo-Iweala’s remarkable achievements and her enduring commitment to championing global economic progress.
