Police To Prosecute Injured Abuja Herbalist If He Survives Failed Bulletproof Charm Test

An herbalist in Abuja, identified as Ismail Usman, is in critical condition after a failed attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made bulletproof charm.

The incident occurred on November 23 in Kuchibuyi village, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, shared details of the bizarre event:

“A distress call from Shandam Michael reported a shocking event involving Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known for his unconventional methods. In a misguided attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun. Unfortunately, the charm failed to protect him, resulting in life-threatening injuries.”

Responding swiftly to the distress call, officers from the Byazhin Division found Usman in critical condition. “Officers from the Byazhin Division responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to find Usman in critical condition. He was quickly transported to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further care,” Adeh explained.

Police later conducted a thorough search of Usman’s home, recovering the homemade gun and several charms. “In the aftermath, police conducted a thorough search of Usman’s home, recovering the homemade gun and an array of charms used in his reckless experiment,” Adeh said.

Usman is expected to face legal action. “Investigations are ongoing, and Usman is expected to face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria,” Adeh confirmed.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, expressed his disapproval of the incident, emphasizing the dangers of illegal firearms. “Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, highlighting the dangers associated with illegal firearms,” Adeh concluded.

Doctors at Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital are currently working to save Usman’s life, but his injuries remain critical.

The case has raised serious concerns about the use of dangerous charms and illegal firearms in the community.
