Popular comedian Seyi Law has sparked controversy online after making critical remarks about Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum’s views on the ongoing tax reform bill.

The comments were shared on social media and have drawn mixed reactions from users, including harsh criticism of Seyi Law’s role as a political aide and his comedy career.

Governor Zulum recently appeared on a televised political program, where he expressed concerns about the proposed tax reform bill under review in the House of Representatives. According to Zulum, if the bill is passed into law, it would primarily benefit Lagos and Rivers states, leaving other regions at a disadvantage.

Reacting to Zulum’s stance, Seyi Law, who serves as a Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment & Tourism to the Ondo State governor, criticized the remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “You want to hold the SW to ransom because of a tax bill?! These people too funny. All their degrees have been thrown in the garbage while trying to defend their elites. Zulum sef dey zuzu.”

Seyi Law’s comments were met with sharp criticism from users on X, with some questioning his professionalism as a public official. One user responded, “If you are sacked now & you go back to cracking dry jokes and disturbing people with your empty ideas, you will say your governor is wicked. How are you his mouthpiece and talking about another governor like this?”

Not holding back, Seyi Law replied, “Your head is as big as Ekenedilichukwu yet devoid of a functioning brain.”

Other users joined the conversation, mocking Seyi Law’s comedy and questioning his judgment. One wrote, “You dey use Ekenedilichukwu take throw jabs? You need to try again, biko.” Another said, “He is right. You can’t be SSA to a governor and talk that low about another governor, especially from the same party. Well, you crack jokes for a living, so you don’t know one.”

Others took jabs at his career, with one user commenting, “No lies when they say you crack harmattan jokes. Thank God for SSA hustle.”

The exchange has continued to fuel debates on professionalism in public service and the role of political aides in discussing sensitive matters.
