FG To Run Free Christmas, New Year Train Services

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says it will operate end-of-the-year special train services in commemoration of 2024 Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Deputy Director, Public Relations, NRC, Mr Yakub Mahmood, made this known in a statement, on Wednesday in Lagos.

Mahmood said that the announcement was in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive, through the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

“This end-of-the-year special train service on scheduled passenger trains, is part of government’s gesture towards an enjoyable end-of-the-year celebration.

“Dates and modalities of the end-of-the-year special train service shall be communicated in due course.

“We wish all our esteemed customers, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government’s plan for the Christmas train services in 2024 is coming as the Senate on Wednesday invited the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Director-General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and airline operators to unravel the circumstances behind incessant flight delays and cancellations.

The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the invitation of the key stakeholders in the aviation sector is aimed at finding lasting solutions to the problem.

NAN also reports that the senate’s resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari (APC-Oyo) during Wednesday’s plenary.

The motion was tagged: “Incessant Delayed and Cancelled flights by Airline Operators in Nigeria.”

Moving the motion, Buhari said that series of reportage from both the print and electronic media showed incessant delay and cancellation of flights by airline operators in the country.
