Outrage As Drunken Road Safety Officer Hits Cars (Video)
By Benjamin Abioye
A disturbing incident involving a Road Safety officer has sparked outrage among Nigerians after a video surfaced online showing the officer driving under the influence of alcohol.
In the video, unidentified men, whose faces were not visible, expressed their anger and frustration as they captured the shocking scene. According to them, the Road Safety officer, who was visibly drunk, had hit another person’s car. This behavior, they argued, was particularly unacceptable given the officer’s role in upholding road safety and ensuring drivers adhere to traffic regulations.
The confrontation escalated as the men questioned how a federal officer, entrusted with enforcing road safety laws, could disregard the same rules by driving while intoxicated. The visibly intoxicated officer, in an apparent attempt to shield himself from the backlash, used his cap to cover his face while repeatedly apologizing, saying, “I’m sorry, bros, I’m sorry.” However, his apologies did little to quell the anger and disbelief of those present.
The incident has led to widespread criticism, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment in the Road Safety Commission’s standards and questioning the effectiveness of its internal checks. Some have called for a thorough investigation into the commission’s practices, urging routine inspections to ensure officers are held accountable for their actions.
The comment section on social media was flooded with reactions, many pointing out the hypocrisy of Road Safety officers penalizing drivers for minor infractions while one of their own committed a serious offense. “What if he had hit a person instead of a car? Would his apology have fixed that?” one commenter asked. Others lamented how Road Safety officers are often strict with civilians but fail to uphold the same standards within their ranks.
The shocking behavior of the officer has left many wondering about the credibility of the commission and the need for stricter oversight to prevent similar incidents in the future.
