The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for peace among his supporters, urging them to avoid violence after security forces blocked his palace on Friday.

GWG.ng reports that armed personnel, including Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), were stationed at the palace, preventing the Emir from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.

Emir Sanusi had been scheduled to oversee the presentation of a staff of office to a newly appointed district head in Bichi. He was also expected to accompany Munir Sanusi, the newly appointed Wamban Kano, to his official district posting. However, the heavy security presence at the palace gates obstructed these plans.

Addressing the situation during the Friday sermon at the Emirate’s Jummaat Mosque, Sanusi urged his supporters to remain calm and avoid falling into provocations. He said, “I warn you against falling into the traps of the enemies of Kano, who want to see Kano on fire. They always want to see killings, destruction of public properties, and maiming of innocent lives.”

The Emir, a prominent traditional leader and former Central Bank governor, emphasized the importance of patience and peaceful coexistence. He remarked, “Islam admonishes you to be patient at any given time, whether in a difficult situation or at peace. If you are attacked, with patience, one becomes great, but refusing to be patient creates uncertainty, difficulties, and at the end, everyone loses out.”

Sanusi further appealed to his supporters, stating, “Anybody who loves us and supports us, we ask him to at any given time shun violence no matter what.”
