Tinubu Cancels Appointment Hours After Announcement

President Bola Tinubu has reversed the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI).

This decision came shortly after a prior announcement of his appointment was made public.

Earlier, it was stated that Yazid Danfulani had a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire, UK. His professional background includes roles in banking, computing, and business administration. He also served as a Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State and had a stint at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The initial statement suggested that Danfulani, along with other appointees, would bring renewed commitment and progress to their roles.

However, a later update confirmed that President Tinubu approved the renewal of Fatima Umaru Shinkafi’s appointment as the Executive Secretary of SMDF/PAGMI. Shinkafi, first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, is credited as a key figure in driving reforms in the solid mineral sector.

In a revised statement, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga clarified, “The earlier announcement about the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the SMDF/PAGMI has been cancelled, as there is no vacancy in the agency.”
