18-Year-Old Kills Ex-Perm Sec, Drives Away His Car
An 18-year-old panel beater, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, has been arrested for allegedly killing Adamu Jagaba, a former Permanent Secretary in the Niger State Government, and stealing his car.
Abdulhakeem is accused of stabbing Adamu Jagaba in the head before fleeing with his vehicle. Jagaba, who had retired from the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, also ran a block molding business in Minna, the state capital.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Abdulhakeem came to Jagaba’s block industry to fix a car. According to an eyewitness, Nuhu Abubakar, “There was no argument. The next thing we saw was that the panel beater entered the car and drove away while the perm sec was lying in a pool of his blood and writhing in pain.” Jagaba was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Niger State Police confirmed Abdulhakeem’s arrest, noting that the teenager was apprehended with the stolen vehicle. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said, “On December 7, 2024, at about 3 pm, a report of an incident of culpable homicide was made at Tudun-Wada Div, that at about 11:30 am, a yet-to-be-identified person(s) trespassed to a block industry located along Eastern Bye-pass, Minna, attacked and stabbed one Adamu Jagaba on the head and made away with his vehicle.” Abiodun added that Jagaba was confirmed dead at the hospital after being rushed there.
Abdulhakeem confessed to the crime, stating, “I visited him at his block industry… After discussing changing the vehicle bumper, I deliberately stabbed the deceased severally on the head and neck… and made away with his Toyota Camry vehicle.”
He also revealed that he had conspired with some of Jagaba’s workers, who provided him with information about the victim. “I have other gang members I do such heinous acts with,” he mentioned, and authorities are now investigating to apprehend them. Abdulhakeem will be charged after the investigation is complete.
