Adeleke’s Aide Slams Omokri Over Wizkid’s Revenue Comparison

The aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Revenue Matters, Akosile Stella, has responded to a comment made by Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, regarding the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).

Omokri had posted on X, claiming, “In two weeks, Wizkid’s Morayo album has generated more revenue than the total Internally Generated Revenue raised by Osun State in 2023.”

In response, Akosile criticized Omokri’s statement, calling it inaccurate and unfair. She argued that it is unreasonable to compare the global reach of Nigerian artiste Wizkid, with his international fanbase, to the IGR of Osun State, which is based on contributions from local residents. She emphasized that Osun’s IGR has steadily increased since Governor Adeleke took office, noting a 9.7% increase in 2022, 13.5% in 2023, and a remarkable 46% growth in 2024. Akosile also highlighted an overall 82% rise in revenue since 2021.

Akosile further stated that Omokri, since leaving political office, appears to lack the ability to make sound arguments. She added, “It may be difficult for Mr. Reno Omokri to know how 46 and 82% were arrived at, but critical thinkers and every other Nigerian know data can be extrapolated.” She criticized Omokri for making an illogical comparison, calling it a case of “comparing Apples with Oranges.”

She pointed out that Wizkid’s audience is global, while Osun’s IGR is based on its local population. Akosile used the example of top footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, whose combined earnings far exceed the IGR of many Nigerian states, including Lagos. She further compared the earnings of golfer Jon Rahm, who despite not winning a tournament, earned more than the self-employed taxes of all states in Nigeria.

Akosile concluded by calling it “extremely funny” that Omokri, after leaving politics, resorts to making “illogical half statements” in an attempt to gain attention by riding on the success of Wizkid’s recent album.
