Nollywood Star Wins Election In Ghana
John Dumelo, a prominent actor in Ghanaian and Nigerian film productions has secured a major political win in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency election.
Competing under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo defeated incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2024 general elections. Dumelo received 40,561 votes, while Alhassan garnered 27,377 votes.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Dumelo, who had previously contested the same seat in 2020 but narrowly lost to Alhassan.
The parliamentary election, held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, showcased Dumelo’s resilience and growing political influence.
Dumelo began his acting career in 1991 while still a student, eventually becoming a celebrated figure in both the Ghanaian (Gollywood) and Nigerian (Nollywood) film industries. His transition from entertainment to politics demonstrates his commitment to public service and addressing the needs of his constituency.
