Kabiru Onyene, an aide to the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was reportedly abducted on Monday evening.

Sources revealed that Onyene was taken around 7:05 PM when armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, stormed his office in Okene.

The assailants arrived at the premises, firing their weapons randomly, and forcefully took Onyene to an unknown location. At the time, Onyene was said to be relaxing at his popular restaurant, “Nahaziyat,” located near the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland’s palace. During the attack, an unidentified person was also shot, but the condition of the shot person remains unclear.

An eyewitness, Ozovehe, described the chaotic scene: “Around 7:05 PM, we suddenly heard a series of loud sounds. At first, many of us thought it was fireworks celebrating the yuletide. But when people began running in all directions to avoid stray bullets, we realized it was gunfire. Shortly after, we heard that gunmen had entered Kabiru’s office and taken him away. What surprised us most was that the incident happened only about 200 meters from a military checkpoint near the former governor’s house. Unfortunately, someone was reportedly shot during the attack, but I don’t know if the victim survived.”

The abduction has left residents of Okene confused and worried about the motive behind the attack. A relative of Onyene expressed concern on social media, writing, “My dear brother, Hon. Kabiru Onyene, has been abducted from his office this evening. We urgently seek your prayers for his safe return. May Allah protect him from harm, guide the authorities to locate him quickly, and reunite him with his loved ones.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, stated that he had not yet received details about the incident. He promised to provide more information as soon as possible.
