Beta Edu, Bobrisky Top Google’s 2024 Search Trends In Nigeria

Google has released its annual “2024 Year in Search” report, revealing the most popular topics and questions Nigerians searched for throughout the year.

Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Google West Africa, explained that the report provides valuable insights into the trends, interests, and concerns that shaped Nigerians’ lives in 2024.

Kola-Ogunlade said, “The trends showcase the most popular searches, notable individuals, actors, musicians, topics, questions, and other subjects that captured Nigerians’ attention during the year.”

Trending Searches and Personalities
In 2024, Nigerians searched extensively for Bobrisky, who topped the list of trending personalities in the country, followed by Beta Edu. Globally, Donald Trump led the personality searches. Topics like the passing of figures such as Junior Pope and Herbert Wigwe also sparked interest.

Kola-Ogunlade noted that Nigerians showed a strong interest in entertainment. Popular movies like ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, ‘Treasure In The Sky’, and ‘Damsel’ led the searches, while TV series such as ‘Supacell’, ‘My Demon’, and ‘Queen of Tears’ also attracted significant attention.

Music and Lyrics Searches
The music industry saw rising stars Shallipopi and Khaid gaining prominence, with their names appearing among the most-searched personalities. Songs like ‘I Don’t Care’ by Boy Spyce, ‘Ozeba’, and ‘Commas’ by Ayra topped the music charts. Additionally, Nigerians sought to understand the lyrics of songs like ‘Ogechi’, ‘Ozeba’, and Chandler Moore’s ‘Omemma’.

Cultural and Political Interests
The report showed that Nigerians were curious about global and local events. Frequently searched topics included “How much is dollar to Naira today?” and “Who won the U.S. presidential election?” Other trending news categories included the U.S. elections, the new national anthem, the national grid, and minimum wage discussions.

Kola-Ogunlade concluded, “From cultural milestones to pressing concerns, these insights reflect how search continues to be a valuable tool for users to navigate and better understand their world.”
