Several Nigerian governors have introduced higher minimum wages for state civil servants, surpassing the federal government’s ₦70,000 minimum wage benchmark to alleviate the impact of economic challenges.

Here’s a breakdown of the states and their newly approved wages:

  1. Lagos State (₦85,000)
    Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu increased the minimum wage to ₦85,000, with plans to raise it further to ₦100,000 by January 2025.
  2. Rivers State (₦85,000)
    Governor Siminalayi Fubara matched Lagos by approving a minimum wage of ₦85,000 for workers.
  3. Enugu State (₦80,000)
    Governor Peter Mbah implemented a new minimum wage of ₦80,000, effective immediately.
  4. Akwa Ibom State (₦80,000)
    Governor Umo Eno announced ₦80,000 and constituted an implementation committee to oversee the process.
  5. Bayelsa State (₦80,000)
    Governor Douye Diri introduced a minimum wage of ₦80,000, including pensions and gratuities.
  6. Niger State (₦80,000)
    Governor Mohammed Bago confirmed ₦80,000 as the new wage, starting from November 2024.
  7. Delta State (₦77,500)
    Workers in Delta are set to receive ₦77,500 following the state’s announcement.
  8. Ogun State (₦77,000)
    Governor Dapo Abiodun approved a new wage of ₦77,000 in October.
  9. Ebonyi State (₦75,000)
    Governor Francis Nwifuru introduced a ₦75,000 minimum wage after assessing the state’s economic conditions.

    Governor Nasir Idris approved ₦75,000 for workers in October.
  11. Ondo State (₦73,000)
    Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa introduced ₦73,000 during his campaign.
  12. Kogi State (₦72,500)
    Governor Ahmed Ododo set the wage at ₦72,500 and waived taxes on it for one year.
  13. Kaduna State (₦72,000)
    Governor Uba Sani confirmed a minimum wage of ₦72,000 effective from November 2024.
  14. Gombe State (₦71,500)
    Governor Muhammad Yahaya signed a ₦71,500 wage agreement with labor unions.
  15. Kano State (₦71,000)
    Governor Abba Yusuf introduced a ₦71,000 minimum wage in November.
  16. Oyo State (₦80,000)
    Governor Seyi Makinde approved ₦80,000 after committee recommendations.
  17. Osun State (₦75,000)
    Governor Ademola Adeleke introduced ₦75,000 after negotiations with public service unions.
  18. Nasarawa State (₦70,500)
    Governor Abdullahi Sule maintained ₦70,500 while addressing labour concerns over salary adjustments.

    Governor Hyacinth Alia approved ₦75,000 and committed to clearing outstanding salary arrears.
