Miyetti Allah President Arrested By Nigerian Army In Nasarawa
Soldiers from the 117 Guards’ Battalion in Keffi, Nasarawa State, have arrested Bello Badejo, the president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural organization.
The arrest took place on Monday after a dispute between a retired soldier and Fulani herders escalated, leaving the soldier injured.
A source from the organization, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed concern over Badejo’s continued detention, describing the situation as troubling. The source explained, “From what we understand, some Fulani herders had an argument with a retired soldier, who is suspected to be from the Air Force, living in Tudun Wada, Karu Local Government Area. The altercation led to the soldier getting hurt.”
The following day, the source continued, “The angry soldier gathered his colleagues from the Keffi barracks and went to the community. When they arrived, they caused panic with their gunfire and reportedly took an unknown number of cattle. However, the situation didn’t end there.”
On Monday, when Badejo returned from a trip, soldiers from the Keffi barracks went to his office at the Maliya cattle market in Tudun Wada. They took him away to an undisclosed location, and there has been no communication from him since. The official added, “The upsetting part is that the Fulani herders involved weren’t his relatives, employees, or even known to him. It seems he was arrested solely because of his position as the head of Miyetti Allah, making him a prominent figure in the community of Fulani herders.”
There are now reports suggesting that Badejo has been moved to the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for further questioning.
