Police Arrest 3 For Trading In N129b Counterfeit Currencies
The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of three individuals—Muhammed Muktar (35), Nura Ibrahim (26), and Muhammed Abdullahi (30)—for allegedly being involved in the trade of counterfeit currencies.
The authorities reported recovering substantial sums of fake money from the suspects, including $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and ₦1.4 million, amounting to a total of ₦129.5 billion.
In addition to these arrests, the police apprehended 59 other suspects for various crimes. Among them were eight armed robbers, 10 cattle rustlers, three kidnappers, one individual involved in abduction, and four drug dealers. The police also detained six individuals for stealing tricycles, four for motorcycle theft, four fraudsters, and 22 thugs (Yan Daba).
The police managed to rescue several victims during the operation, including one kidnapped person, another abduction victim, and victims of human trafficking. In terms of recoveries, the police seized live ammunition, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, three parcels, and 175 wraps of Indian hemp. They also confiscated 250 pieces of Diazepam tablets, 278 sheep, and seven cattle. Other items recovered included five necklaces, five earrings, 10 SIM cards, 15 ATM cards, and 10 mobile phones.
Police Commissioner Salman Garba reported that these arrests took place over a two-week period, from November 25 to December 9, 2024. Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, Kano Police Spokesman SP Abdullahi Kiyawa briefed the media, stating that the command’s approach had significantly enhanced security in the region. He emphasized, “Businesses are thriving, residents are feeling safer in their homes, and the general sense of security and well-being has been greatly enhanced.”
The police also reassured the public of their commitment to further improving security efforts and strengthening collaborations with other security agencies and the local community, with the goal of ensuring that Kano remains a safe haven for both residents and visitors.
