CAF Player of the Year

Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie have earned spots on the final shortlist for the 2024 CAF Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year awards, cementing their status as standout performers in African football.

Lookman, the Atalanta winger, will compete for the prestigious title alongside Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams. The 27-year-old played a pivotal role for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, contributing three goals and an assist in seven matches. He also made history by scoring a hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final, further boosting his credentials for the accolade.

Victor Osimhen, a standout for Galatasaray, clinched the award last year, leaving Lookman with the opportunity to bring it back to Nigeria.

On the women’s side, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year award. She faces stiff competition from Zambia’s Barbara Banda and Morocco’s Sanna Mssoudy. Nnadozie’s exceptional performances between the posts have made her a cornerstone for both her club and country.

The award has been dominated in recent years by Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala, who claimed the honor in 2023. This year’s ceremony promises to be a thrilling showcase of African talent, with winners set to be announced at an upcoming gala.
