A heated exchange unfolded on live television between Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni and James Olalere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister , Nyesom Wike

The exchange occured during a discussion about the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) demolition exercise spearheaded by Minister Wike.

The drama began when Rufai posed a question about the controversial demolition policy, using the phrase “you guys” to address Olayinka and his team. This phrase appeared to spark tension, with Wike’s man, Olayinka interpreting it as derogatory.

“Using the word ‘you guys’ on us is insulting,” Olayinka retorted sharply.

Rufai defended his line of questioning, stating, “You can’t come here and teach me my job.”

Olayinka, however, stood his ground, asserting his extensive experience in the media industry. “I’m your senior on this job, so I can teach you,” he countered.

Olayinka’s credentials as a journalist with over two decades of experience in media management and public relations added weight to his argument. However, the fiery exchange highlighted the tension between media professionals and public officials in handling sensitive issues such as the FCT demolitions.

The exchange has since gone viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions from viewers. While some praised Rufai for his boldness, others criticized both parties for allowing personal differences to overshadow the discussion on a critical public policy.

This incident underscores the need for mutual respect and professionalism in public discourse, especially when addressing pressing national issues.
