Pastor Adeboye Questions Nigeria’s Progress

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has expressed concerns about Nigeria’s state of affairs, questioning whether the country might be under a curse due to its persistent challenges.

Speaking at the annual Holy Ghost Congress, themed “Onward Christian Soldiers,” held at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Pastor Adeboye highlighted the frustration caused by the nation’s struggles. He referenced comments he made during the church’s annual Abuja Special Holy Ghost Service, noting the backlash he faced for speaking candidly.

During his earlier remarks in Abuja, Adeboye had called for prayers to counteract the influence of powerful groups allegedly working to undermine the success of private refineries in Nigeria. He criticized the enormous financial waste on the country’s four government-owned refineries, which have failed to yield results despite the billions of naira spent.

Reflecting on the situation, Adeboye stated: “I said something during the Abuja Holy Ghost Service which I am not going to repeat because I nearly got into trouble because of telling the truth. Certain things happened, at least in my nation Nigeria, that force you to wonder: Are we under a curse? There are nations that didn’t have all the resources we have, and yet, they seem to be doing better than we are doing. Hmmmm, let me leave that out.”

The remarks underscore his growing concern about the country’s direction and his hope for divine intervention to address the nation’s challenges.
