The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has officially recognized Chief Tony Okocha as the party leader in Rivers State and with it snubbing the erstwhile party leader, Rotimi Amaechi.

Okocha, a known ally of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, heads the state executive committee endorsed by the APC’s national leadership.

Ganduje announced this during the inauguration of the newly elected Rivers State APC executive committee in Port Harcourt. Addressing attendees, he extended his congratulations to the new members and explained why the event was held in Rivers State rather than at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, this decision symbolizes the party’s commitment to fostering a closer relationship between its national and state leadership structures, ensuring cohesion and unity.

The APC chairman urged the state executive committee to prioritize internal democracy, describing it as essential to their mandate. He also called for a focus on unity and inclusiveness within the party to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level.

Reflecting on the APC’s growing influence in the South-South geopolitical zone, Ganduje highlighted the party’s achievements, including control over Cross River and Edo states, areas traditionally dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He declared Rivers State as the APC’s next major focus as part of its broader strategy to expand its footprint in the region.
