NAFDAC Denies Approving Herbal Tea For Smokers
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied approving a herbal tea for smokers that supposedly makes smoking “healthy.”
In a statement released on Saturday, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, clarified that the product, Lungitox (also known as Smokers Pride), was not registered with the agency.
According to NAFDAC, the individual behind the product had applied for registration, but the application was rejected because of its misleading and harmful claim that smoking could be made healthy by using the product. The agency emphasized that such claims were unsubstantiated and dangerous, putting public health at risk.
In the statement, denying the NAFDAC approval of the herbal tea for smokers, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health. The agency stressed that it only approves products that are safe, effective, and supported by scientific evidence. “NAFDAC wishes to categorically state that this claim is false and completely unfounded. The product in question, Lungitox (Smokers Pride), is not registered by NAFDAC,” the statement read.
NAFDAC also condemned any attempts to deceive the public with false health claims, urging people to ignore any such misleading videos circulating on social media. The public was advised to report suspicious products or claims to NAFDAC through their official channels.
For further inquiries, NAFDAC provided contact details: 0800-162-3322, email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng, or the website www.nafdac.gov.ng. The agency vowed to take firm action against anyone found violating public health standards.
