Anxiety Over Arrested Nurse Who Ridiculed Tinubu’s Children, IGP
A nurse and activist, Olamide Thomas, has been moved to Abuja by the Lagos State Police after being arrested for allegedly making controversial statements about the families of President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Olamide Thomas was arrested early Friday morning at her home in Shomolu, Lagos, following a Facebook livestream in which she allegedly directed curses at the families of Tinubu and Egbetokun. The video was shared on October 20, shortly after Thomas claimed she was assaulted by police during the #EndSARS memorial procession at the Lekki Tollgate.
Sources revealed that Olamide Thomas was denied administrative bail at the Panti Police Station in Yaba, Lagos. On Saturday, she was transported to Abuja and handed over to the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), specifically the cybercrime unit.
Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, refused to confirm or deny her transfer, stating, “I do not have any comment on the case at this time.” Similarly, FCID spokesperson Funmi Eguaoje said, “I’ll let you know when I have the details.”
One of her associates, activist Netufo Tomide, confirmed the transfer, saying, “She has been transferred to the Police Cybercrime Centre under the FCID in Abuja.” Another associate, Folayemi Akinfolarin, shared that Thomas called her after arriving in Abuja. “I received a call from her informing me that they just landed in Abuja now,” Akinfolarin stated.
In the video that led to her arrest, Olamide Thomas expressed strong grievances, invoking divine judgment and issuing harsh remarks about Tinubu, Egbetokun, and the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi. Her comments reflected a deep sense of injustice, which she claimed was caused by police brutality.
The video also showed Thomas visibly distressed, asking bystanders to pour water on her head, apparently after being exposed to teargas.
Reports indicate that Olamide Thomas’ arrest was carried out by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a special police unit under the Inspector-General of Police. The team allegedly tracked her to her home through her uncle, who had been detained the day before. After her arrest, Thomas was first taken to Panti Police Station and then to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja before being moved to Abuja.
