BREAKING: S/Court Gifts Tinubu N5m, Voids Sack Suit
The Supreme Court in Abuja has imposed a ₦5 million fine on Ambrose Albert Owuru, a former presidential candidate, for filing a frivolous and baseless lawsuit against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Owuru, who ran for president in 2019 under the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) against former President Muhammadu Buhari, was ordered to pay the fine to Tinubu.
Justice Uwani Musa Aba-Aji issued the ruling while dismissing Owuru’s lawsuit, which sought the removal of Tinubu from the presidency. The court also directed its Registry to reject any future frivolous lawsuits filed by Owuru.
During the court session, Owuru, who claimed to be a lawyer admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1984, attempted to represent himself in the case while wearing his wig and gown. He was instructed by the court to leave the courtroom and remove his wig and gown before being allowed to continue with his presentation.
Once he complied with the court’s order, Owuru was questioned about his repeated court appearances, considering that his previous lawsuits had been dismissed three times. Despite his efforts to convince the court, his arguments were deemed unpersuasive.
Justice Aba-Aji criticized Owuru’s conduct, stating that it was unprofessional for someone with over 40 years of legal experience. Ultimately, the court dismissed his case and imposed the ₦5 million fine on him.
