Everybody Really Loves Jenifa As Funke Akindele’s Flick Breaks Records

Funke Akindele’s latest film, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ (ELJ), has made a huge impact at the Nigerian box office.

Released on December 13, 2024, the movie earned an impressive N206 million during its opening weekend. Funke expressed her gratitude on social media, writing, “Thank you Lord!!! Thank you Nigeria!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!”

The film’s opening day saw it gross N45.22 million, which was a 30% increase in ticket sales compared to last year’s ‘A Tribe Called Judah’. ELJ’s debut weekend was even more remarkable, as it sold 38,353 tickets, marking the largest opening weekend in Nollywood’s history and setting a new record for the highest-grossing opening weekend.

In addition to these milestones, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ achieved the highest-grossing single day in Nollywood history, earning N87.8 million on one day. The film has also made its international debut, being shown in 30 countries through Nile Group Entertainment, broadening its global reach.

This success is particularly noteworthy because the film was not screened at Genesis Cinemas and missed part of the day at Silverbird Cinemas, yet it still managed to break records.
