The Jigawa State Government has uncovered 6,348 ghost workers following a biometric data capture and validation exercise conducted as part of a statewide staff audit.

This revelation was announced by the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, during a press briefing after an Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi.

According to Hon. Musa, the audit has resulted in significant cost savings for the state. He explained, “The exercise exposed 6,348 ghost workers and led to a financial saving of ₦314,657,342.06 monthly and ₦3,775,888,809.72 annually.”

The state government had earlier directed the integration of its workforce into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS). This initiative was designed not to penalize employees but to streamline the payroll system, ensure accuracy, and guarantee timely payment of salaries and other entitlements.

To maintain the system’s efficiency, the State Executive Council approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service. This centre will oversee ongoing staff audits and biometric data capture as part of the IPPMS.

Highlighting the council’s decision, Hon. Musa stated, “Council has received the report of the Staff Verification Exercise and approved the establishment of the Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service for the completion of the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise as part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS) for the Jigawa State Government.”

The audit marks a crucial step in the government’s efforts to eliminate payroll fraud, ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of the state’s workforce..
