Governor Gifts Honest Nigerian Woman ₦500,000
The Katsina State Government has honored Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama with a reward of ₦500,000 for her honesty in returning ₦748,320 that was mistakenly deposited into her account.
The money was meant for the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme within the state.
Abdulkadir-Yanmama, however, returned the amount since she was not involved in the program. Dr. Mudassir Nasir, the Executive Director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency, presented the reward to her on Tuesday. He explained, “She informed us that she received a notification about a payment for vendors supplying meals to primary school students. However, she realized she was not on the list of vendors and was not part of the program.”
Nasir further clarified that they requested her bank statement, which was verified by the Office of the Auditor-General, confirming her claim. Governor Dikko Radda then decided to reward her with ₦500,000, a commendation letter, and an invitation to participate in the upcoming school feeding program.
The state’s Auditor-General, Alhaji Anas Tukur-Abdulƙadir, also praised Abdulkadir-Yanmama for her integrity and stated that she deserved even greater recognition for her honesty. In her response, Abdulkadir-Yanmama expressed, “I realized that I needed to return the money as it was not mine.”
She also expressed her gratitude to the governor and the KASIPA management for their recognition and encouragement.
