The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in compliance with a recent Supreme Court judgment.

This was disclosed in a press release issued on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.

According INEC statement, the Commission had been served with the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court on November 27, 2024, in the case APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS with Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024. The apex court ruled in favor of Barr. Ezeokenwa, affirming him as the legitimate chairman of the party.

In compliance with the court’s decision, INEC has restored Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa’s name as the APGA Chairman on its official website.

The judgment brings an end to the prolonged leadership tussle that had plagued APGA and been a subject of litigation, providing clarity and direction for the party’s leadership.

The INEC statement reads: “The Commission has been served with the judgment of the Supreme Court with Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on 27th November 2024, recognizing Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the party. In compliance with the judgment of the apex court, the Commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of APGA and restored his name on our website accordingly.”

The decision is expected to bring stability to APGA as the party prepares for future political activities and elections.

GWG.ng reports that the development brings succour to Governor Charles Soludo who is aligned to the Ezeokenwa tendency in APGA.
