Tinubu Speaks On Ibadan Funfair Tragedy
President Bola Tinubu has called for an urgent investigation into the tragic stampede at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident, which claimed the lives of several children and left many injured, has left the nation in grief.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate event. He extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Oyo State and sympathized with the grieving families who lost their children.
The statement read, “In this moment of mourning, President Tinubu stands in solidarity with the affected families and offers prayers that the Almighty God will grant peace to the souls of those who have departed in this unfortunate event.”
The President directed authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy. He emphasized the need to determine whether negligence or deliberate actions played a role in the incident, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.
He also urged the Oyo State Government to take proactive measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. These measures include a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular audits of event venues.
Tinubu further appealed to event organisers to make the safety of attendees, especially children, their top priority. He underscored the importance of engaging professional security teams, adhering to strict protocols, and implementing effective logistics to ensure a safe environment for all.
“Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount,” the President stressed. “No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives.”
