Confusion As FG Reverses Appointment Of Top Official
The Federal Government has reportedly withdrawn the appointment of Mr. Shelmsudeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).
In a surprising twist of events, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, the former AGF who had been directed to retire, has been reinstated and will now remain in office until March 2025 putting off the appointment of a successor.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the decision follows a letter from the Office of the Head of Service, granting Madein an extension to her tenure. The development has sparked confusion within the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), leaving staff uncertain about who holds authority.
Ogunjimi’s appointment had raised eyebrows among public service observers, with critics questioning the bypassing of more senior officials eligible for the role of AGF. Concerns were also raised about Ogunjimi’s prior transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, arguing that his return to the OAGF lacked proper clearance and violated established civil service procedures.
Public service regulations, which mandate officers to adhere to pre-retirement formalities, further complicated the controversy. Insiders revealed that the Presidency had been advised to hold off on Ogunjimi’s appointment until Madein concluded her extended term.
The unfolding situation has left many speculating on how the leadership impasse at the OAGF will be resolved, as questions linger over adherence to service rules and the decision-making process within the Federal Government.
