Reno Omokri moves from defending the legacies of Goodluck Jonathan, and the potentials of Atiku Abubakar to flaunting the achievements of Bola Tinubu

Former Presidential aide and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has found himself at the center of an online controversy following a post on his X platform (formerly Twitter) on the achievements of the Bola Tinubu administration.

In the post, Reno Omokri commended several achievements he attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing them as positive signs of progress for Nigeria. However, his remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with many criticizing his claims while others voiced their support.

In his post, Reno Omokri listed several achievements he credited to the Tinubu government:

“This is the first Yuletide season in the history of Nigeria where the following things are co-occurring:
Fuel price has reduced, and there are no fuel queues or petrol scarcity. For the first time, Nigeria is exporting refined petroleum products to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Food is costly but very much available. The Federal Government-owned interstate public transport has been made free of charge for the duration of the holidays.

The new Minimum Wage is being paid to federal workers. And there have been no incidents of terrorism or insecurity outside the theatres of operation, which in itself is reducing in territory, even as both Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa, who have been behind much of the instability in the Southeast of Nigeria, are behind bars.

We may not be where we want to be as a nation, but things are gradually getting better in Nigeria in many ways.

As a Nigerian, you have enough reasons to smile this period.

TableShaker”

Reno Omokri’s optimism on the achievements of the Tinubu government sparked a heated debate, with some commenters supporting his perspective, while others strongly disagreed, accusing him of being out of touch with the realities faced by many Nigerians.

A user, @Dee31280843, expressed support, stating:
“Trust me, I am happier than you can imagine. Naija is growing, but many don’t see this!”

Similarly, @ADEDARSENAL noted:
“PBAT is getting it gradually. Over happy dey worry me, honestly, Reno. ASIWAJU is going to succeed, insha Allah.”

However, the criticism outweighed the praise. Many Nigerians accused Reno of downplaying the struggles of ordinary citizens. @AdogaFx sarcastically remarked:
“I never chop today. All this progress no reach my side.”

Another user, @duke_of_yobe, challenged Reno’s analysis, saying:
“You have a blurry understanding of the socioeconomic realities that resulted in all these alleged merriments. The reformations have crippled the poor and stagnated the working class.”

Others pointed out inconsistencies in his claims. @riidwanolalekan clarified:
“The new minimum wage hasn’t been paid. FG only added a flat rate of ₦40,000 to all FG civil servants’ salaries. We’re still waiting for the actual minimum wage payment.”

A significant number of users expressed skepticism about Reno’s assertions. Some highlighted the high cost of fuel and food, while others mentioned the naira’s scarcity during the festive season.

@HassanMamadu wrote:
“Fuel is available, but at what rate? What percentage of people can afford ₦1,000 per liter? I don’t buy your idea, sir.”

@noleleG also pointed to recent incidents, saying:
“With all your narrative, I believe you saw what happened in Ibadan because of food.”

While Reno Omokri’s post intended to highlight the achievements of the present government, it has underscored the deep divide in public opinion about the state of the nation under President Tinubu’s administration. For some, his words offer hope; for others, they are a stark reminder of the challenges that still persist.

As the debate rages on, it is clear that Nigerians remain deeply invested in discussions about the nation’s socioeconomic realities.
