Breaking: Fuel Tanker Explodes, Causes Traffic Gridlock
A fuel tanker explosion rocked the Soka area of Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State, on Saturday evening.
The Ondo tanker explosion which occurred around 6:30 PM, reportedly occurred when the tanker veered off the road and plunged into a ditch. Moments later, the vehicle erupted in flames, sending plumes of heavy smoke into the air, reducing visibility, and causing a significant traffic jam in the area.
Eyewitnesses described the explosion as chaotic, with residents and passersby scrambling to safety as the fire raged.
Confirming the incident in a phone conversation with Channels Television, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, said that while the fire caused panic and disruption, no fatalities have been recorded.
Emergency services are said to be working to control the situation and clear the road for commuters. Residents are advised to avoid the affected area for their safety.
