Nigerian Footballers Shine Ahead Of Christmas Matches

It was a successful weekend for several Nigerian footballers playing for clubs abroad.

Many of them contributed to their teams’ victories in the last game just before Christmas. Key players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Tolu Arokodare stood out with their performances.

Victor Osimhen had an excellent game for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig. He scored twice in their 5-1 win over Kayserispor. His first goal came from a penalty just four minutes into the match. Later, he scored again with a precise shot in the second half. Osimhen now has nine goals and three assists in 11 league matches this season. Across all competitions, he has 12 goals and five assists in 15 games since joining the club on loan.

David Okereke
David Okereke also impressed in the Turkish league, helping Gaziantep defeat Antalyaspor 2-0. He provided the assist for the first goal, setting up Kacper Kozlowski just before halftime. Okereke played 76 minutes and contributed to the second goal as well. His performance showed his growing importance to the team.

Ademola Lookman
Ademola Lookman played a vital role in Atalanta’s 3-2 win over Empoli in Serie A. He scored a goal before halftime, helping his team recover from an early deficit. This season, Lookman has nine goals and four assists in 14 league games. Before the match, he proudly displayed his CAF Player of the Year award, underlining his influence as a key player for Atalanta.

Tolu Arokodare
Tolu Arokodare contributed greatly to Genk’s 2-0 victory against Anderlecht in Belgium. He scored the opening goal in the 29th minute, taking his season tally to 11 goals in 19 games. Later, he assisted the second goal, further proving his value to the team. With this performance, he is now just one goal away from matching his total from last season. Genk remains strong in the title race with 41 points after 19 matches.
